Sounds great to this beginner
This is my first Saxophone and it seems great to me. I'm not an expert and don't know a ton about different Saxophones, but this one sounds great as far as I'm concerned and seems to be well made.

No serial number
Bad:- no serial number (representative of not appropriate quality control, this can be see in the problems with some keys)- sticky in the note "A"- high F# key difficult to play- while in my other saxophones is easy to reach the high notes "F" and "F#", in the DAX-21 is difficult. (other quality control issue)- the mouthpiece that came with the DAX-21 is not good. You need to replace with a better alto saxophone mouthpiece.- before I play the DAX-21, I used some time in setting up, resolving some air leaking. This supposed to be done in the factory by the "experts in set up" in the quality control department.- no cork grease- no warranty note or paperGood:- good and vibrant sound using a better mouthpiece- excellent intonation- good hand carved work- decent bag, but minimalist- the ligature is ok- the cleaning kit is ok- good shipping package- the sax stand is cheap, but doe the jobIn resume, the Donner DAX-21 is a good alto saxophone, but need a better job in factory quality control and setting up.

Its great!
I am ecstatic with this sax!I love the tone of the instrument. It sounds very good for this price range. Which also makes the Saxophone a great value in my opinion.Whether you are starting out as a beginner or have some experience under your belt, this Alto Sax is a great buy.I love the travel bag, it is really nice for this price point and actually offers functional protection for the sax while still being light weight, very easy to travel or pack around due to its design. The sax itself is very beautiful for this price range, the keys look awesome, a nice copper pearl look on the inlays, while the hand carved details on the instrument look great as well, any beginner or someone looking for an upgrade from a beginner sax would be thrilled, as it looks great. Beautiful finish too, looks great all around, I was very impressed. The neck strap is nice, and the little stand is a great bonus.Really love the mouthpiece shape, easy to play. Includes a reed. Everything you need is here for a beginner. Sax is responsive, easy to feel the instrument as you can feel the vibration while playing. It is easy enough adjust to your own playing style, overall, for the price it is impressive.Instrument is well made and seems to be airtight; production quality and quality control seem to be in order, Donner is a good company, I have one of their guitars and really enjoy it as well, they make good instruments.

Solid but...
I have to first say that the sax was well made and my son loved it. BUT I purchased it new but it came with a reed already inserted in the mouthpiece and it was MOLDY! I'm so happy that my husband was there to observe this. My son was able to use his old mouthpiece on the sax. I did end up returning it soon after because of this situation.

This amateur loves how it sounds!
I've wanted a sax for a long, long time now and was thrilled at the opportunity to finally put on my best John Coltrane impersonation. (For the record, it's a terrible, TERRIBLE impersonation!)I've played some honest to good expensive saxes and while this isn't QUITE up to their level, it's quite good for its price range. Beginner saxes can START at $800 or so, and run into the low thousands, so in that context, this is a bargain. The sax plays and feels nice. The action on the keys is smooth and the sound is good, with a nice tone (when I can manage not to blow a bum note). The craftsmanship is good, too. Some of these affordable brass instruments are clearly just cheap metal with a shiny paint job. Though this isn't a true brass piece, it does a good job disguising itself as one. This isn't the best beginner package Donner has to offer, but it's pretty solid. Comes with a strap, cushions, cleaning cloth, and a few other extras, plus a very sturdy carrying case. The case it a little too compact, with little room for extras, but it does a good job of protecting the instrument. It also comes with a foldable stand, which is nice. I've been admiring how it looks set up in my music room!I'm leaning more towards 4.5 stars than 5, but since we can't do halves, it's a 5 from me. Overall, I'm quite pleased with how this looks, feels, and sounds. Saxophones are expensive, but this one is an approachable price, making it ideal for students or first-timers like me who are eager to learn but can't justify dropping a grand on a daydream.

Well made, comes with everything you need to start playing!
This is a beautifully appointed instrument. It comes with everything you need to get started, even several reeds. The case is soft-sided and molded to the instrument, so it's very good for transport and very protective. The instrument itself is beautiful and every detail is accounted for. The keys are a little tight the first few days of playing, but after that, they loosen a bit and get a little easier to use/push down. It has a good tone to it. It does run a little sharp until you warm it up with about 2-3 minutes of playing. Once you get it warmed up and tuned, it's got a nice whole, clean, deep Alto tone. It's great for beginners or more advanced players. Overall, I really like it!

Overall just Ok
I ordered this sax so I can start learning. When I received it I noticed one of the valves was sticking, so I took it to a repair shop for on overall inspection. They informed me that ontop of the valve sticking there was multiple valves that needed adjusting because they didnt close all the way. They they also informed me that I better be careful with it because there is no way to get replacement part. Overall they did say it was a decent sax for its money.

Donner DAX21 Alto Saxophone
I ordered this before Christmas. It took nearly two weeks to arrive even though I had a prime account. Must be the season. The Amazon package was okay as the original box inside was a little crushed. The only issue inside was the box for the stand which was crushed but the stand itself was fine. To my disappointment, the mouthpiece and ligature was missing. I also noted three of the five reeds were also missing. I talked to Donner CS and they were no help. They asked me to search inside. It isn't exactly a maze to search. I talked to Amazon and they offered to compensate me so I could buy a mouthpiece and ligature including the reeds. The reeds that came with the saxophone were twisted. They would not lay flat on the mouthpiece. The saxophone itself was of good visible quality. However when you connected it to the neck strap, it was unbalanced and bottom heavy. Quite bottom heavy as it is just shy of 5kg. It is hard to hold it up. The horn is also quite restrictive to blow. Not the mouthpiece but the horn itself. I am still trying but I think this will not work for me and I will have to return it. I had it also tested by a professional and she agreed wit my observations and also noted the keys were harder to press. Not recommended for newbies or even intermediate players. I just tried other saxophones with my purchased mouthpiece at a local shop to compare. They were lighter and blew smoothly without too much effort.
