A tad pricey but well-built and extremely versatile...Price justified
I own a handful of items that Teenage Engineering has released and this one is hands down the most versatile. Whether you're recording/playing music and using this as your audio output or just doing chores and whistling while you work, or looking to have a blissful atmospheric sound playing ambience for you...This has it all. And I find this to be the one I go back to often. If I had one gripe about it, is the lack of options in the app that can also be accompanied. You don't need to use the app to use this device at all. And the other gripe might be, that I find the the bluetooth's latency to be a bit laggy at times. But other than that, I love the output volume, which tends to rest in a bit more bass-heavy space. I take this thing everywhere in the house, from the garage to the office to the living room to the kitchen, when I'm showering...You name it. I've run Pocket Operators and the EP K.O. II through it and it sounds pitch perfect. I can't recommend this enough.

cost is steep, may make you overthink its actual quality/usecase
this is a nice speaker that was made to be much more than a speaker, and at first when i got it, was very displeased, as sounds on it were just much much different than what i have used for years past; but this is largely in part with I am using lower-mid grade speakers and this is not that.First of all, this thing is a BOOM BOX.I cannot really play any of my black metal / heavy metal / anything metal louder than 35% in my apartment before it exceeds all over devices sound. You can feel the music at all sound levels. Truly. Which i find to be very unique. And this is much more than a speaker, and if you dont read the possiblities of what this does before hand, you will be a bit sad when you consider the price to speaker. but this is an instrument.full fledged, with 2 hours of playback on the tape, mixxing up some of the craziest sounds from just random radio snipets / song snipets, along with scratching, speeding up, slowing down, changing pitch, looping, etc. you have to take some time to learn all these functions as you have 4 Human interface inputs on the device with about 16 or more actions associated with them, being a combination of a button held here and dial moved there, two buttons, etc.comes with good documentation on all the use-case.oh and this battery is the best of any bluetooth speaker ive ever seen with the quality of sound putting out.i have left it on for two days playing music off and on while always atleast connected to BT before it tends to show me red on the light and that means charge it.would be good for parties, and is a sturdy device. but high value, and small. easy to steal so dont set it down!

Great radio if you want to use the cord all the time!!!
The battery life sucks!!!! I keep it always charged and it will only last maybe a hour or so I have better radios that last longer and I’m not even using the gimmicks in the OB-4 just Bluetooth so we can listen to tunes at the lake!!! I’m not happy about it!! Especially with the damn price I paid for it!!! Please think twice about buying the radio/bluetooth small boom box!! The battery life sucks!!!

Awesome, but save your money
I love TE and all their quirky devices and this “magic radio” is no exception. It’s got a premium quality feel to and the sound is REALLY good. The functions are nice and unexpected, but you’ll quickly start using this device as a BT speaker if you’re not too heavily invested in music production. And for the price point, I can’t really justify any of this as a selling point. You’ll find much better BT for cheaper elsewhere. The radio aspect combined with some of the effects the OB-4 comes with quickly wane. Unless you have a real nice discretionary spending budget, then go ahead and purchase this exceptional radio/BT speaker. If you don’t, please trust me on this one when I say you REALLY DON’T need it.

High quality, whimsical speaker that you don't need but will love
Look, nobody needs this thing. It's very expensive. But if you're here reading reviews, you might understand the appeal. This lets you interact with music in a way that other speakers don't. It's not quite an instrument, but it's a lot more than a $650 bluetooth speaker. And if you're interested in messing around with time, loops, weird ambient effects, etc., it's absolutely fantastic - it definitely encourages an active approach to listening to music.Yes, you can do all of these things with other cheaper setups, but it's the entire package with the spinning knobs and the dials and the lovely sound quality and portability that make it what it is.Sound quality and build quality are both excellent. So the big question to ask yourself is will the quirks and whimsy of this thing justify the price, and that's totally a personal decision. If you think it will, then go for it. There's nothing like it. I'm really glad I supported this kind of weirdo product design, even at this price point. If you don't think the features and quality are worth what they're asking, don't buy it. You likely won't have your mind changed when it's in your hands. It is exactly what it's advertised to be.

A $700 speaker that sounds like a $150 speaker.
It sounds ok. A little puzzled. Feels very fragile too. A little too much flash in the pan with this one.

Sounds amazing, features wear off, so darn expensive!
It has the best sound in a portable bluetooth speaker I've found. Much better than my beloved Audioengine B2 and much better than Sonos One. I find the features nifty, but not really useful. I wish I could get the courage to return it, but I'm going to keep it because the sound is really, really good.Over Memorial Day weekend, we put it in a triangular (not a right triangle) nook, and it was almost night-club loud, at least for the 8 of us at a country house.

Sophisticated and beautiful
I think if you’re looking for something aesthetic and well designed and engineered. This is it. Beautiful in every aspect from a design standpoint. It delivers balanced sound that is room filling, unique features, and stunning bauhaus design. Dare I say Dieter Rams graced this product? Haha. Teenage engineering will not disappoint. Worth every penny.
