Works better than baking soda (won't raise that pH as much), and just as well as the much more expensive alternatives you find for "alkalinity up" at the big chain pool stores. We've found all Clorox brand pool supplies, especially this and the Shock, to be functionally perfect at a much cheaper price than big chain pool store alternatives. Not always available at WalMart, we were happy to find it here on Amazon at about the same cost with quick delivery.
