Review: Awesome Mini-Heater and It Also Gives Off a Lot of Light! - I love this lantern. In the old days, fuel lanterns like these were an absolute must for camp lighting. Nowadays, it is not my first go to for camp lighting with advent of LEDs. If I set my Luci LED lantern out in the sun for a day, it will light up my camp/tent for two or three evenings on that one charge and weighs less than 125g, which weighs less than even the smallest fuel cylinder for this lantern {ASIN: B01IIV1OC0}. It will do this for months on end. Carbon impact for 4 months use - ZERO. How many fuel cylinders is that in a lantern? What I really use this Primus lantern for nowadays is both light and/or HEAT. If it is too cool or cold, fire this thing up inside the tent, and you will be warm and toasty in no time. If I need to break camp at the crack of dawn and there is dew everywhere, few camp tools will dry out the tent surfaces better than firing up this compact lantern inside the tent for a few minutes. A huge plus. You can then break down and roll up a DRY not soggy tent. In cold weather, I suggest hanging the lantern ready to go in the tent at bedtime, then you can reach out of your sleeping bag and fire it up with the built in piezo lighter (it's fast and easy - check the video) and retreat to the comfort of your sleeping bag while the Primus heats up your tent until it is ok to come out of your cocoon. It is a good source of light, but with all of the advantages of the modern solar chargeable camp lights, it is hard not to regularly use them for your light sources and conserve your fuel. Additionally, the HEAT produced from the lantern while helpful, can also be hazardous, so for casual light, I use the solar lantern when possible, especially inside the tent and if kids are around. Inside the tent, use the hanger (maybe with extensions depending on your tent height ) to keep this thing away from the tent surfaces, and that way you can’t tumble it over and ruin your spendy sleeping bag. If the business metal parts of the unit touches anything fabric while in use, it’s flame on! Since I don’t need to squeeze every single photon from this lantern, the compact metal screen on this lantern is a perfect choice for me. Very practical . . . rough handling; no broken glass globes. It comes with a sturdy carrying bag. Make sure to get some spare Primus mantles to bring with you, also, there are many other brands of mantles on desertcart that fit at a better price. If you can do most of your camp lighting with the LEDs, you can really lighten your load burden by carrying less fuel. This has a great compact form factor for me for both car and ATV camping. It is also light enough to use for some backpacking and many backpacking stoves use this same fuel cylinder. Ready for action; the carry bag, the lantern head with mantle, and two spare mantles, weigh in at 157 grams. Adapters allow you to mate this lantern with other less expensive (and heavier to carry) fuel sources if long term use is needed. See ASIN: B00SR6OVOA and ASIN: B00CFPISZW. I am very happy with this lantern, I recommend it, and would buy it again. Sorry about the photo order, you cannot place them so some are out of order.
Review: Great langern that can run on multiple cheaper fuels, and use multiple coleman mantles! - This thing is pretty much a blowtorch with a mantle. I love it! It puts out a generous amount of light, and an extreme amount of heat (so much so that it can be dangerous). In addition I can run this on multiple fuels with the appropriate adapters. First off even with the mesh cage you get plenty of uninterrupted light. Its blinding to look at, the gas flow adjustment valve is very proportional and very accurate. And unlike most stoves that run on cylinder gas it maintains it's setting when you adjust it, even down to very very low. You can get it so low that it will barely provide any visible light, but it still provides ample heat to keep a car in winter or a tent warm when used properly to avoid asphyxiation. On any setting except absolute minimum the mesh cage and top of lantern will get so hot they will instantly ignite anything that touches it! Paper, wood, synthetic materials (your tent, jacket, pants, sleeping bag, etc). So this thing is extremely dangerous in that regard if not used with caution. Even at the lowest setting it still gets hot enough to burn you if you happen to touch or grab it. The steel wire hanging kit is great as it is attached to the base of the lantern that is fixed an not the removable mesh part. So you can be confident that the lamp will be securely held in place. It only comes with a single mantle and Primus mantles are expensive and can be impossible to find locally. Luckily they are the same as the Coleman #51 slip on mantles. But since Coleman no longer makes a micro lantern like this, those mantles are getting harder to find (most retail stores won't carry them) and more expensive. So I decided to try a standard Coleman #21 tie on mantle and yes it will work fine if installed properly. Those you can still get just about anywhere including walmart. So you can save yourself some headache and some dough using those. I can also use the Peerless mantles that are an alternative to the Colemans as I generally prefer those as they burn much brighter and whiter than the Colemans as they still have the Thorium in them. Using those its uncomfortable to look right at this thing on high. With the following adapters I can run the lantern on either the much cheaper Asian store pure butane cylinders, or the 1lb disposable propane cylinders. Kovea Propane Adapter ASIN# B00CFPISZW Kovea Lindal valve to CB butane canister adapter ASIN# B00CFPIT06 So if you car camping there is much better fuel economy to be had than the more expensive 4 season fuels. All in all a very solid lantern that can be even more useful and cheaper to run as advertised. Will probably buy a few more for fear they will one day be discontinued and no longer available.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Backcountry campers will absolutely LOVE this Lantern!!!
*by J***E on October 14, 2016*

I heard about this product from Aron Snyder on the Gritty Bowmen podcast (awesome western hunting podcast by the way - check it out if you are interested in hunting the west!) and I must say that it is one of my favorite pieces of gear for hunting in the backcountry. This unit is extremely lightweight (weighs about 4 ounces) and comes with its own handy bag to protect it from bumping around in your pack. It is extremely durable - the globe is actually made out of steel mesh (the description says something about a frosted glass cover which is incorrect - there is no glass in this unit). I pack in about 4 miles (and 3000 vertical feet) to my high country camp in Colorado and had no issue with the mantle breaking - I do carry spares just in case. It is super easy to use - has its own striker so it is easy to reach out of your sleeping bag and fire it up early in the morning without any effort. It is extremely bright (and therefore super hot - don't put anything flammable in close proximity because it will catch them on fire) but has an adjustable burner so you can adjust the brightness to what you need. This unit is extremely fuel efficient - I used it all week in the morning and the evening and my fuel canister still feels totally full. It has a handy hook on a wire handle so you can hang it up around camp if you want. It uses the same type of fuel that you would use on a Jetboil type of stove so it is handy to have a couple of things that use a common item when your camp is carried in on your back. I would highly recommend this product and won't be caught in the high country without it in the future.
