## Description

JL Audio C5-650 6-1/2" Evolution C5 Series 2-way Component Speakers System

Review: My ears are completely satisfied.. - Finally was able to install these into my Tacoma - I have them powered with an Alpine PDX F4 (120w rms per channel) set to full range, and sourced from the Alpine CDEW265BT w/ it's crossover set at 80 Hz w/ 24 dB slope, w/ time delay set for front and the JL 13TW5V2 subwoofer. EQ'd by my ears. I am using 3/4" MDF brackets I made for the woofers, and the tweeters were flush mounted in scrap 1/4" oak-veneer plywood I had - all the woofers are tightly sealed to the doors, and the tweeters are aimed at the opposing headrests (spent 30 minutes just aiming the tweeters). I also used 1/2" foam weather strip to wrap around the woofer edges to direct all sound into the cabin instead of into the door-card. Make sure to either make your own quality mounts like me or buy a quality set of MDF or millable-plastic mounts - don't settle for the flimsy 'free' speaker mounts. I am using the C5's passive crossover (I don't have interior cargo room to jump on the 'active' bandwagon yet). I have upgraded from a much older set of Infinity Kappa CS60.2 (green cones) - those were a good component set which were $300 back in 2000, but the C5's are simply outstanding. There really is no comparison - I wish I would have upgraded sooner instead of reusing the Infinity's. I probably need to hear the JL Audio ZR or the brand new C7 series to generate any negative comments on the C5. My ears are completely satisfied and I can certainly hear the immediate detail improvements. Its hard to describe - but the reproduced sound is just about as 'accurate to the recording source/location' as you'll get without going up even higher in terms of speaker and system setup costs. The tweeter does not 'give up' at high volume - it stays smooth and vocal, and never becomes harsh (like my old Infinity's). In terms of bass, they do bottom out with the headunit crossover set to 50 or 63 Hz, at either 12 or 24 dB slopes. 80 Hz 24 dB seems to be safe and avoids the bottoming out at full volume during bass punchy rap music. I'm not sure if that's the passive crossover's fault, or the limitation of the woofer (its certainly not my o-scope set gains). These are very accurate and natural sounding - I can't pick up on any boosted or attenuated frequencies. You probably could use these as studio monitors if you want to build enclosures. By the way, these will make your modern rock, classic rock, 90's alternative 80's pop, 80's freestyle, country, classic and modern EDM, Beatles, Doors, modern pop - just about anything with a good mastering sound the way it was intended to sound. If its a bad master (or a bad MP3 from your college days) - your going to hear it and be realizing / critiquing how the master should have been laid out when your music is played through these C5's. I don't know what else to say - if you want sound quality - I highly recommend the C5's!
Review: Great sound. Construction a bit flimsy - These sound very good to me. The craftsmanship is a bit lacking. The woofer seems a bit flimsy/cheap and the tweeter has two thin wires going to it with some soldering that just looks like it came from a dusty factory in Malaysia. Glad I didn't pay full retail, these aren't nearly at par with their sub. Recommended to a degree, I needed a small tweeter that was silk so this fit the bill.

### ⭐⭐⭐ Great sound. Construction a bit flimsy

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I am very happy with my purchase.

Excellent sound quality over C2. To truly bring out their talent, JL fix 86 or a similar DSP to smooth out OEM signal. Before JL fix 86, the amplified harshness of my factory radio door chime (ear piercing) is (imo) what destroyed my right C2 tweeter after a year. JL fix 86 also gives you the ability to change output voltage to amplifiers utilizing JL TuN software (less static via gain turn down) I did the install myself. The tweeters said they wouldn't fit my car but they did, perfectly (compared my measurements). I recommend 'Second skin multipurpose butyl rope' to secure and dampen vibration with a touch of hot glue in key areas (in case you want to take these with you for a new vehicle). I did this install myself and the last audio shop that installed my C2's, hot glue, foam, and deadening strip slapped on the back(very messy, overkill, and gave old tweeters wiggle room because more is not always better!) They are a bit expensive but love them. Clarity, warm sounding and can give you ear fatigue if you like to listen loud. The two +\- coming off the tweeters, used a small gold plated spade to slide in in which I soldered connections. The crossover is wonderful and helps significantly when pairing to rears & sub(s). I have these C5's running off a JL RD400/4. JL C2 coax in rear (JL fix 86 assisted in helping me easily tune the C2 coaxials sound to blend. ** without a DSP to flatten OEM signal out, I don't believe you will be able to realize these speakers full potential. I've included pictures of my JL fix Tun adjustment. (The fairly straight orange line is after JL fix adjustment...The red & green behind it is my OEM stock out of my head unit which is horrible & harsh)
